Krótka rozprawka o opalaniu. / Short essay on tanning.

CÓRKA: weź jeszcze raz powiedz, jak opalasz twarz.
MATKA: wiatr mnie opala, odbija promienie słoneczne od piasku i kieruje na moją twarz.
CÓRKA: aha, a to jest udowodnione naukowo?
MATKA: oczywiście, jasne, dlatego na plaży człowiek się bardziej opala, bo piasek jest biały.
CÓRKA: a na czarnej plaży by się nie opalał?
MATKA: noo dużo mniej :)
CÓRKA: ale przecież czarny przyciąga promienie słoneczne.
MATKA:tak, ale wchłania, wchłaniaaa. Promienie słoneczne by się zapadały w tym czarnym piasku i koniec.
CÓRKA: i by we mnie nie trafiały, omijały mnie?
MATKA: nie odbijałyby się i nie trafiały, tak jak trafiają we mnie.
CÓRKA: ale jak to możliwe, żeby te promienie się odbijały?
MATKA: no bo odbijają się jak od lustra.
CÓRKA: trochę naciągana teoria.
MATKA: tak?
 CÓRKA: sama ją wymyśliłaś?
MATKA : no może sama, ale gdzieś coś takiego czytałam. np. dlaczego na plaży człowiek bardziej się opala?
CÓRKA: bo leży na słońcu:)
MATKA:no nie, można leżeć w ogrodzie i się nie opalić.
CÓRKA: no możliwe. Na plaży jest wiatr.
MATKA:wiatr i jasny piasek. Ale najbardziej to chyba wiatr, bo jak się płynie na morzu, to też jest wiatr, a nie ma jasnego piasku. Można stać cały czas tyłem do słońca, a jednak człowiek się bardzo opali.
CÓRKA:czyli jednak wiatr. Czyli mogę się opalać na czarny piasku?
MATKA: tak, jeśli jest wiatr.

DAUGHTER: Tell me once more how you tan your face.

MOTHER: wind tanns me. It directs the sun rays onto the sand, then they’re reflected onto my face.

DAUGHTER: aah, is it scientifically proven?

MOTHER: of course, obviously. that’s why people tan faster on a beach, because the sand is white.

DAUGHTER: wouldn’t they tan if sand was black?

MOTHER: much less :)

DAUGHTER: but I thought black attracts sun rays.

MOTHER: but it absorbs them, absoooorbs. Sun rays would get stuck in the sand and that’s it.

DAUGHTER: and they wouldn’t be able to reach me, they would go around me?

MOTHER: they wouldn’t get reflected and they wouldn’t go towards you, like they come towards me.

DAUGHTER: how is it possible that those rays of sun get reflected?

MOTHER: they do just as they are reflected by a mirror.

DAUGHTER: are you sure you’re not making this up?

MOTHER: you think so?

DAUGHTER: is it your own idea?

MOTHER: maybe it is, or maybe I read it somewhere. Something like “why do people tan faster on a beach”.

DAUGHTER: because they lay in the sun.

MOTHER: but you can lay in the sun in your back yard too and get no tan.

DAUGHTER: possibly. There is wind on the beach.

MOTHER: wind and white sand. I think wind does most of the job because if you’re out in the sea there’s wind, but no sand. You could face away from the sun and still tan a lot.

DAUGHTER: so it’s wind. So I could get tanned on black sand then?

MOTHER: yes, if the wind is strong.
